The Akatsi South District in the Volta region has recorded it’s first case of Coronavirus. This was disclosed by the District Health Director, Dr . George Nyarko. Confirming the case in an interview on the Global Morning Show (GMS), Tuesday May 19 2020, Dr George Nyarko said the case was a ‘walk- in’ case involving a young man who, having realized he had been exhibiting some symptoms, walked into one of the health facilities and requested for a test .
“The man in question is a young person who actually walked into one of the facilities and requested for a test after he noticed some signs and symptoms,” he said.
According to Dr. Nyarko, samples were taken on 15 May 2020 and results that came the following day, confirmined he had tested positive. He indicated that arrangements were immediately made for him to be conveyed to the isolation centre in Ho on Monday ,18 May 2020 after he was put in mandatory quarantine and surveillance.
“The patient was under mandatory quarantine and well monitored,he was safely transported to the isolation centre in Ho on Monday for further treatment,” he added.
According to the Health Director, contact-tracing had begun, assuring the public of ensuring the spread is curtailed . He also urged the public to adhere to all the safety protocols to avoid contracting and spreading the deadly pandemic.
