The match, which also served as a pre-season match for Akatsi All Stars, was organized by Desmond Agbekpornu and his management who wanted to show appreciation to the community.

The game ended with Akatsi All Stars beating the select-side by 3 goals to nothing. Customized Rivers United jerseys were shared to both team’s fans and friends from the past who came to grace the occasion.

The 26-year old defender, speaking to Eze1 TV, said that he felt he needed to comeback and give to his community where his footballing career started.
“The most important thing in life is to remember the essence of your existence. When you are pursuing your dreams, and your life has taken a new direction, you should always remember your roots and bonds which gave you the strength to be the person you are today.
Always remember your roots. They are the foundation of your life and the wings of your future,” he said to Eze1 TV (Facebook LIVE).

He also used the occasion to thank his former team mates and friends who came in their numbers to play for him. He singled out his personal manager Mr. Edem Joshua Galley for being a great guide in his career. He went on to heap praises and admitted that he owes his success story to football administrator Aleru Sarafa, CEO of Agbogba FC who masterminded his move from Ashanti Gold SC to Heartland after a hard time with the Ghanaian topflight.

Desmond Agbekpornu currently plays for Rivers United in the Nigerian Professional Football League, though he started his career as an athlete for Keta Senior Secondary School (KETASCO). His first club was Action Rangers before joining Agbozume Weavers. His good performances drew the attention of Ashanti Gold SC who signed him to play in the Ghana Premier League. He was part of the Ashanti Gold SC squad that won the Ghana Premier League in 2015.

He moved to Heartland FC in Nigeria in 2019 and went on loan at Lobi Stars for a season before joining Rivers United for the 2020/2021 season and has tasted CAF Champions League football this season.

Desmond is expected back in Nigeria to join his team in preparation for the CAF Confederations Cup and the 2021/2022 Nigerian Professional Football League season.
