Don’t be afraid to call politicians out when they ‘misbehave’ – Mahama to Tongu chiefs

The Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, H.E John Dramani Mahama, has urged Chiefs and traditional rulers to be resolute in their fatherly roles and call out politicians whose actions threaten the collective good of the country.

According to him, the tendency by some to generalize their criticisms and admonishment any time a politician or political party misconducts themselves is neither healthy nor deterrent enough.
The former President was addressing a gathering of Chiefs and Queen mothers of Central Tongu in Sogakope on Monday August 17, 2020.

“Torgbuiwo, if you’re a father at home and one of your sons misbehaves, what you normally do is to call that child out and rebuke him; you don’t call all your sons together and rebuke all of them just because one of them has misbehaved. Torgbuiwo, Mamawo, you know which of your sons is misbehaving!

The NDC has never referred to Voltarians as Togolese. Indeed the NDC has never referred to any tribe or ethnic grouping in Ghana as non-Ghanaians. You know which of your sons has been doing that. Don’t be afraid to call them out and tell them,” he said in response to concerns of excessive ethnocentrism raised by Torgbui Agama Amata IV, Paramount Chief of the Fievie Traditional Area.

The former President, today Monday August 17, 2020 commenced a four-day tour of the Volta region. The tour forms part of activities outlined by the major opposition party ahead of the December 2020 elections. He paid a courtesy call on the Chiefs and people of Battor and Mepe in North Tongu, after which he met with the Chiefs and people of Central Tongu, South Tongu, Anloga and Keta. He is also expected to continue his tour on Tuesday August 18, 2020 with a courtesy call on the Chiefs of the Avenor Traditional Area in Akatsi South as well as an interaction with the Chiefs and people of Abor, Afife and Agbozume.
