Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Boamah Otokunor, has rubbished claims made in the European Union’s Election Observation Mission Report of a free and fair general elections 2020.
In an interview with Randy Edudzi Ahadzi on the GMS Thursday, 15th April 2021, Mr. Otokunor explained that after a thorough study of the report, the findings do not exactly represent real facts captured. This, he believes, is as a result of flaws in the report . He also said the report failed to mention the chunk of eligible voters who were disenfranchised on election day.
“You can’t draw such a conclusion and say it was free and fair when people were denied their rights to vote. You cannot conclude like that,” he said. The Deputy NDC scribe also cited that the failure of the report to touch on some other critical issues of violence such as the stabbing incident that happened at Banda and the shooting incident at Dormaa during the voter registration exercise as part of reasons he described the report as a failed one.
He emphasized that the report again failed to extensively capture other security issues on election day .
“The report didn’t talk about how some 8 persons were killed during the election, I think that’s a very big flaw in the monitoring tools used by the EU,” adding that “the final output of the EU could have been an objective one with all the right intentions but it failed”
