Global FM cautions Police against linking it to Trans-Volta Secessionists

The management of Global FM in Ho has strongly objected to the attempt by the Volta Regional Police Command to link it to members of the secessionist group, Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF).

The police Command in a release yesterday claimed twenty-one members of the HSGF had been arrested at the premises of Global FM at HO.
“The Volta Regional Police Command today 04 December, 2019 arrested 21 members of the Homeland Study Group Foundation at the premises of Global FM in the Ho Municipality. . .” the Police statement said. However, in a release signed by the General Manager of Global FM, Egypt Kobla Kudoto, the management of the radio station asserts that the police statement is not true.

According to the management, the suspects were rounded up and arrested outside of a public/town hall situated within a privately-owned commercial/residential property. They (suspects) were arrested outside of the said conference hall (a town hall of some sort) that is available to the public on rental basis. Indeed, many groupings – religious, business, educational, political, etc. – do patronize the facility on regular basis while some church and business groups have even adopted it as a somewhat permanent venue for their activities. They explained further that the corporate offices of Global FM are rented facilities located within the said private property and so Global FM is merely a tenant in one of many commercial facilities within the premises open to the public.

Global FM LTD, being a tenant, has no say or decision in who gets to rent the said conference hall or not, nor do we determine who enters the premises and for what purpose since other private individuals make use of the premises”, the statement said.

They went on to state that the radio station has no relationship whatsoever, whether overtly or covertly, with whomever rents the hall or opts to use the premises for whatever activity.
“…that an arrest of suspects of crime effected outside of this public commercial facility (that only happens to share same premises with Global FM LTD.) does not necessarily, by any stretch of imagination, constitute an arrest “at the premises of Global FM”, the management of the radio station asserts.

RE – 21 MEMBERS OF HOMELAND STUDY GROUP FOUNDATION ARRESTED IN HO

The attention of management of Global FM LTD. has been drawn to a press statement dated Tuesday 4th December, 2019, authored and released by the Volta Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service detailing the arrest of some 21 persons believed to be members of the secessionist group, Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF).

We especially take note, with strong disapprobation, the seeming symbiotic relationship between our outfit and the above-mentioned group conveyed in the said presser as follows:

“The Volta Regional Police Command today 04 December, 2019 arrested 21 members of the Homeland Study Group Foundation at the premises of Global FM in the Ho Municipality. . .”
We wish to state, for the avoidance of doubt, the following:
1. that the suspects were rounded up and arrested outside of a public/town hall situated within a privately-owned commercial/residential property.

2. that the corporate offices of Global FM LTD. are rented facilities located within the said private property. And so Global FM LTD. is merely a tenant in one of many commercial facilities within the premises open to the public.

3. that Global FM LTD., being a tenant, has no say or decision in who gets to rent the said conference hall or not, nor do we determine who enters the premises and for what purpose since other private individuals make use of the premises.

4. that Global FM LTD. has no relationship whatsoever, whether overtly or covertly, with whomever rents the hall or opts to use the premises for whatever activity.

5. that an arrest of suspects of crime effected outside of this public commercial facility (that only happens to share same premises with Global FM LTD.) does not necessarily, by any stretch of imagination, constitute an arrest “at the premises of Global FM”

While we appreciate the fact that the Volta Regional command of the Ghana Police Service may not necessarily intend any malice towards our outfit with their release, the notion or inference of some correlation between the HSGF and Global FM LTD. is, nonetheless, conveyed, however subtly.
It was thus refreshing to hear the P.R.O of Regional Command, Cpl. Prince Dogbatse, seek to clear the air on Eyewitness News on Accra-based Citi Fm.

It is our expectation that the Regional Command, going forward, would be a bit more circumspect and explicit in their literature so as not to occasion such misunderstanding.

Signed:
EGYPT KOBLA KUDOTO
GENERAL MANAGER, GLOBAL FM LTD.
