Supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Sunday evening abandoned President John Dramani Mahama at the newly constructed Cape Coast Stadium
Enthusiastic party supporters who had thronged the national campaign launch, stormed out of the stadium in the middle of President Mahama’s speech, leaving empty seats.
President Mahama ended his speech with the over 20-seater capacity stadium virtually empty. This has set tongues wagging, with political pundits wondering if the president has lost touch with the grassroots supporters of the party.
President Mahama had earlier received what political observers saw as cold reception when he entered the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.
Unlike NDC founder and former President J. J. Rawlings who stole the show at the campaign launch, it had to take a prolonged shout of ‘Mahama, Mahama, Mahama’ by the former Youth and Sports Minster, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah for party supporters to partially acknowledge the presents of the Ghanaian President and leader of the governing party.
