This follows the challenges that characterized the implementation of the paperless system introduced just 11 days ago.
Reporting from the Tema port, Starr Business’ Kennedy Mornah said clearing agents are still complaining about delays in getting their goods cleared days after managers of the Ghana Ports and Harbor promised to revise strategies towards addressing the challenges facing the ongoing implementation of the paperless system.
He said “most of the process ongoing right now…especially declarations that had been sent earlier to [authorities] are now going through manually.”
Port officials last week struggled to control frustrated clearing agents at the Tema port. The clearing agents as a results staged some protests to demand the cancellation of the new system.
Starr News has gathered that the full implementation of the paperless system has now been moved to Saturday, October 7.
A deputy Commissioner of Customs Service Richard Yaotse apologised for the challenges that have plagued the implementation of the paperless system. Speaking on the development Friday, September 8, 2017, on Morning Starr, Mr. Yaotse admitted that the roll-out of the system suffered challenges and that they are working assiduously to have them rectified.
“We had a meeting yesterday and we are doing our best to make things work perfectly,” he told Host of Morning Starr Francis Abban.
He said going forward they do not expect to have system down times and that they are profusely remorseful for the chaos.
“We apologize to our stakeholders. We are very sorry for what happened. For all the inconveniences we caused all stakeholders, we are very sorry,” he pleaded.
