Separatists allegedly strike again; attack Ho STC Terminal, burn buses

Members of separatist groups in the Volta Region today Tuesday September 29, 2020 allegedly attacked the State Transport Company(STC) Terminal in the Volta Regional capital, Ho.

According to the accounts of the Terminal Manager, Richard Ahiafor, and one other bus driver, members of the group allegedly fired gunshots, set upon the security man and the drivers in the yard, beating them up and finally proceeding to set some buses ablaze.

This comes barely days after significant unrests had rocked parts of the Volta Region. The group on Friday September 25, 2020 blocked major international roads and entries to the Volta region with heaps of sand, burning lorry tires and other debris. Members of the group also attacked some Police posts, molested some officers and made away with weapons, a police pickup truck and other items. In an exclusive interview with Volta 1 Television few hours after Friday’s incident, members of the group admitted to masterminding the unrests, and sought to justify same.

In the latest attack, a mid-size Toyota Coaster bus with registration number GG 4054-19 was completely burned to ashes while another, with registration number GG 1737-19, was partially burned. According to sources, but for the timely intervention of personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, many more vehicles and other property would have suffered same fate.

Meanwhile security personnel have been deployed to the scene and investigations are underway to get to the bottom of the incident and perpetrators found.
