More than half of people with mental illness don’t seek help for their disorders.
Often, people avoid or delay seeking treatment due to concerns about being treated differently ,that’s because stigma, prejudice and discrimination against people with mental illness is still very much a problem.
This, Dr. Francis Acquah has said in an interview with Edudzi Randy Ahadzi on the Global Morning Show on Tuesday 12 January 2021.
Dr. Acquah also mentioned that he together with some other doctors are working hard to ensure they clamp down on the stigma and also help curb the number of recorded cases.
He indicated that the government needs to come on board and support with enough resources.
“the government of the day must try as much as possible to resource the mental health sector”. He encouraged persons with such conditions to freely go for regular check ups.
