The ruling New Patriotic Party in the Volta region appears to be developing deep cracks within their ranks as party functionaties/executives brawl over the misappropriation or otherwise of party campaign items .
Days after he was re-nominated as Minister-designate for the Volta region, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa suffered stiff opposition from some party faithfuls in the region who demonstrated against his reappointment, accusing him, inter alia, of appropriating to himself items meant for party sympathizers ahead of the 2020 general elections. While the outfit of the Regional Minister has denied the allegations and has since made a formal report to the police on same, a group of party members, in what appears to be a counter accusation, have also accused the party’s Regional Women Organizer as the one behind the missing items . According to Mr Nelson Kumah Oye, a founding member of the party in the region, the Women Organizer took the items to her home at barrack. In an interview on the Global Morning Show Wednesday 17 March, 2021 with host, Randy Edudzi Ahadzi, Mr. Oye said he was reliably informed that the former had sold off part of the items and pocketed the proceeds. He further accused other top party functionaries as being involved in the deal and conniving to black-paint the Regional Minister.
But reacting to the claims made by Mr Nelson Kumah Oye, the Regional Organizer of the party , Mr. Kosi Bodja, debunked the allegations and urged that same be treated with contempt. He noted that one Mr Enoch Amegbletor, who serves as Special Assistant to the Regional Minister, was the one masterminding lies and defamation against the person of the Women Organizer. Mr Bodja explained that the Women Organiser used to live in the residency, but had to move out after an eviction letter signed by the Regional Minister was served on her. And so in packing out, she moved out with the said items, adding that the said items were procured through the effort of the Women Organizer and with support from MASLOC.
