Ho based Old Battalions FC, a football club made up of retired footballers beat their counterparts Assjok FC from Kodzoviakope, Togo 4 – 0 in a friendly encounter on Sunday at the Ho sports stadium.
The match served as an annual end of year activity for the home side, Old Battalions Fc. The game which saw great talent been exhibited by both sides with beautiful skills saw the Battalions take the lead in the 30th minute when captain Benjamin Agbesi latched onto a Fafa Gbadegbe pass and beautifully drove in a short from 30yards out.
Despite Assjok’s zeal to equalise, all their efforts proved futile. Benjamin Agbesi found himself unmarked in the box and volley home his second of the day in the 40th minute and gave his side a comfortable lead before recess.
The second half provide a more rejuvenated Assjok side after they made some changes. Assjok enjoyed possession in the second half but couldn’t utilise their chances as they were wasteful in front of goal.
A 60th minute substitution by coach Patrick Ganaku for Old Battalions brought on Henry Agbesi who replaced Majeed and that resulted in another brace for the home side. Henry Agbenyo scored the 3rd goal just 10 minutes of coming on after he dribbled past the defenders of Assjok and curled in to the left corner.
The match saw more changes from both sides in the last minutes of the game. Substitute Henry Agbenyo again became the hero as he scored the 4th goal in the 82nd minute to seal a more convincing victory for the home side.
The game ended 4 – 0 in favor of Old Battalions. Mr. Maxwell Appoh, a philanthropist donated a set of Jersey to Old Battalions football club as part of his pledge and support for the team.
