The Volta Regional Football Association Chairman, Daniel Agbogah today paid a courtesy call on the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ho Municipal Assembly, Honorable Prosper Kofi Pi-Bansah.
The visit was intended to introduce the Municipal Chairman and his newly constituted Executive Council members to the MCE.
The visit was also to interact with the Hon. DCE on issues of football development in the Municipality.
Mr Agbogah in his opening deliberation share with MCE his vision for the development of football in the Volta Region and why the District Assembly should take a keen interest in supporting the Association. He said the Association in the past years wasn’t calling on some major stakeholders hence the change.
“We see the Municipal Assembly as a major stakeholder in sports. And we can’t neglect you in our quest to develop the game. Football has the predisposition to give career opportunity to our youths, offering them life skills and character development. If the district supports our vision to promote the game for good of our region, it would go a long way to reduce lots of burdens off the shoulders of the Municipality.” Chairman noted.
Mr. Agbogah also appeals to the Municipal Assembly to allocate an office space to the Ho Municipal FA to enhance its functions.
Other appeals the Chairman made to the MCE include support to create game centers and security during FA organized events and activities.
Honorable Pi-Bansah welcomed the Regional FA delegation and expressed his excitement for the visit. He said football is a unifier and he still remembers the old days of Ho Mighty Eagle, Ho Sunset and Ho Voradep. He said it’s always joyous moments when weekend or match day approaches. He urges the Municipal FA to bring back the glory days focusing on the Juvenile football.
“I want to urge you to bring back the good old days. I come from a footballing home and my father was at the center of Mighty Eagles and Voradeep. The joy and excitement the game brings to us was immeasurable. We will want to see those days back. I want you to start from the colts players, encourage people to catch them young and when they finally mature, a potent team will once again emerge from the municipality” he addded.
He however bemoans the character and unfaithfulness of players towards their club owners.
“The players have been a major problem to the growth of the game in the past. Imagine players taking monies from opponents before games. They will obviously not be competitive and let go of results. If this isn’t checked, club owners will not be encourage to form football clubs thereby limiting the growth of the game”
The MCE has however expressed his readiness to help he Municipal FA realize its target.
The RFA Chairman was accompanied by Tilda Elinam Acorlor (Deputizing for the Regional Secretary).
Similar calls are expected to be made on all Municipal and District Chief Executives across the Volta and Oti regions.
