Your nomination breaks social limitation on women – Volta NDC Women Wing to Prof. Opoku-Agyemang

The women wing of the NDC in the Volta Region have asserted that the nomination of Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as running mate to the party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, is a well calculated strategy to de-limit women as far as leadership of the country is concerned. The say her appointment is not merely happenstance, but a carefully and deliberately thought-out policy initiative to break the glass ceiling for women in the country.

In a press statement signed by the Regional Women Organizer, Hon. Delphina Fafa Agbai, and sighted by globalfmonline, the wing expresses absolute confidence in the flagbearer choice of a Running Mate, citing Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s  stellar credentials and service record as basis for their confidence.

“The decision to nominate a woman to the position of a running mate is part to a groundswell in localized programmes within the NDC encouraging and utilizing the incredible potential of women for national development. These kinds of things do have the potential to change fundamentals that could shift the paradigms,” they argue adding “We have keenly followed the processes leading to your nomination and subsequent endorsement by the apex of the NDC. Your credentials and achievements in academia and public life speak volumes; simply put, you are best described as ‘primus inter pares.’

They have been joined by hundreds of other women across the nation and all over the world in the expression of excitement in what many describe as the biggest leap for women in the history of Ghanaian politics.

The Volta NDC Women Wing say that Ghanaian women are even more driven now to get involved in campaigning for one of their own in order to see this dream become a reality. According to the statement, the nomination of the renowned Professor will help restore the lost confidence in Ghanaian politics.

“Your nomination comes at a time of acute socio-economic crisis and absolute loss of faith in political leadership; a major and urgent hurdle for our party to overcome. It’s our resolve to regain the trust and interest of citizens as well as restore confidence in our national political leadership once more,” they said.

“This is a call we believe, and judging from your credentials and public life experience, you would champion which eventually would rekindle and re-energise hope in our women folks. The NDC, as a social democratic body, is ready to be a strong partner in this national and patriotic exercise,” the added.
